A German manufacturer of precision optical equipment. Famous for its high-end single-lens reflex camera, the Contax. In the mid-19th century in Europe, microscopes were rediscovered as a tool for scientific research, and demand for high-performance microscopes was on the rise. It was under these circumstances that Carl Zeiss & Co. began as a microscope factory established in Jena in 1846 by C. Zeiss (1816-1888). In 1866, Zeiss invited E. Abbe, a mathematics and physics lecturer at the University of Jena, to join the company. In 1872, Abbe completed the world's first microscope using optical calculations, dramatically raising the company's technological level.
