Japanese: 穀物選別機 - こくもつせんべつき

Agricultural machinery used to separate and remove straw waste, garbage, and defective broken grains during threshing, hulling, rice polishing, and sorting. This is done using wind power, sieves, and indented disks or cylinders, taking advantage of differences in the size, shape, specific gravity, surface friction, and light transmittance of the grains. There are various types of sorting depending on the method used. A winnowing machine that uses wind power to remove garbage, dust, immature grains, and broken grains attached to grains is called a winnowing machine, and by blowing wind sideways at the falling grains, full grains fly forward and light straw and garbage fly into the distance.

脱穀，もみすり，精米，精選などのさい，わらくず，ごみ，不良砕粒などを分離，除去するために用いられる農機具。穀粒の大小，形状，比重，表面の摩擦，光の透過度などの違いを利用して，風力，ふるい，くぼみつきの円板や円筒などを用いて行う。選別の方法によっていろいろな種類がある。穀物に付着したごみや土ぼこり，未熟粒，砕粒を風力で除くものは唐箕（とうみ）といい，落下する穀粒に横方向から風をあてると充実した粒は手前に，軽いわらやごみは遠方にとぶ。
