... The alligator gar ( Lepisosteus spatula ), found in Cuba, Mexico, and the southern United States, is the largest, reaching a total length of up to 3 meters. The longnose gar (also called billfish, L. osseus ), found in a wide range of habitat from the Great Lakes to Florida and Mexico, has been known to live for over 20 years and reach a total length of 1.5 meters in aquariums.
