Koga [town] - Koka

Japanese: 甲賀[町] - こうか

A former town in Koga County, southeastern Shiga Prefecture. Also called "Koga." It occupies mountainous and hilly areas upstream of the Soma River, a tributary of the Yasu River, and the Kusatsu Line runs through it. It is involved in agriculture and forestry, producing cypress and other timber. It is the center of Omi medicine manufacturing, with many pharmaceutical factories in the central Ohara Market. In October 2004, it merged with the towns of Minakuchi, Tsuchiyama, Konan, and Shigaraki in Koga County to form Koga City. 71.63 ^km2 . Population: 11,880 (2003).

滋賀県南東部，甲賀郡の旧町。〈こうが〉とも。野洲(やす)川の支流杣(そま)川上流の山地，丘陵地を占め，草津線が通じる。農林業を営み，ヒノキなどの木材を産する。近江(おうみ)売薬製造の中心地で，中心の大原市場に製薬工場が多い。2004年10月甲賀郡水口町，土山町，甲南町，信楽町と合併し，甲賀市となる。71.63km²。１万1880人（2003）。
