Born on January 3, 1936. Became a professor at the University of Tokyo in 1981. After retiring from the government, he became director of the RIKEN Brain Science Institute. He studied the mathematics of neural networks and proposed information geometry. He received the Japan Academy Prize in 1995 for his research into the basic theory of neural information processing. In 2012, he was named a Person of Cultural Merit. He was born in Tokyo and graduated from the University of Tokyo. His publications include "Biocomputer."
