The two major political parties in Austria are the Austrian People's Party Österreichische Volkspartei (ÖVP) and the Austrian Socialist Party Sozialistische Partei Österreichs (SPÖ). Since the end of World War II, the two parties have split the number of seats in the lower house of parliament almost evenly, with the difference between their seats remaining small at around 10 to 20.
