Located at the confluence of the Gorband and Panjshir rivers, 60km northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan, this was the centre of the ancient Kapisi state, and is the remains of the capital from the Kushan dynasty to the 9th century. A French archaeological team investigated the area from 1937 to 1945, unearthing exquisite art and crafts from both the East and the West, including bronze statues and glassware from Greece and Rome, ivory reliefs from India, and lacquerware from the Han dynasty in China. Successive rulers of the Kapisi state made this their summer capital, and Gandhara their winter capital. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
