The Abejaneda Law - It's not Abe

...The perpetual leases under this law were transformed into ownership rights as the overseas market for agricultural and livestock products such as beef and wheat expanded, and vast privatized estancias (large ranches) were born in the center of the Pampas. Furthermore, frontier lands with undetermined private ownership (originally occupied by Indians) were made public, and the introduction of immigrants and the installment payment policy for government land under the Avellaneda Law of 1876 were promoted, leading to the establishment of self-employed farms in the inland fringes of the Pampas, while in the center, leasehold forms under large land ownership became common. In Brazil, the sesmaría system was completely abolished by the Land Law of 1850, and slavery was also abolished in 1888.
