Compulsory planning - Compulsory planning

...The formulation of an economic plan is one such government activity, but the plan does not have a compulsory or commanding nature as in socialism; it merely provides guidelines and guideposts for the desired form of the economy. In this sense, economic planning in socialism is called imperative planning, while economic planning in capitalism is called indicative planning. Regardless of the type of economic plan, the desired economic state to be achieved over a medium-term planning period of about five years must be described in concrete, quantitative terms and in a consistent manner.
