In July 1869 (Meiji 2), the Meiji Restoration government renamed the national financial administration agency to the Ministry of Finance. Its predecessor was the Financial and Grain Accounting Office, which was established within the Imperial Court in 1867 (Keio 3). The new government's financial agencies were subsequently renamed the Accounting Affairs Division, Accounting Bureau, and Accountant, but it continued the work of this office. Under the jurisdiction of the Dajokan, it was responsible for the accounting of financial and grain, stipends, minting, maintenance, supplies, etc.
