Born: May 22, 1848 in Borkenburg
[Died] February 25, 1911. Munich German painter. He initially became a soldier, but later switched to painting. He started out in the style of German Impressionism, but was later influenced by the Dutch school. He is also known for his religious paintings of the New Testament in the style of S. Spencer, depicting religious figures in modern costumes, and became the most outstanding religious painter of his time. His representative works include "The Last Supper" and "The Adoration of the Magi."

Uhde, Wilhelm

[Died] 1947. A German art critic and collector from Paris. He was credited with discovering painters such as H. Rousseau, and named these Sunday painters the "Naive School" and defined them. He is the author of "Five Naive Painters" (1948) and others.
