...A Chinese poet of the mid-Edo period. His name was Shu and his pen name was Bunchu. He was from Shimotsuke. He was born into a family of Shugendo monks, but he hated the family business and went to Edo in his youth, where he studied under Hattori Nankaku and established himself as a Chinese poet. He is known for opening a poetry society called Ichikakusodo and teaching Chinese poetry to ordinary samurai and townspeople. The hobby of Chinese poetry became widespread from the late 18th century, and Kiyokawa's life, in which he made a living by teaching Chinese poetry to many people, is said to embody the trend of the time to spread Chinese poetry. His poetry collections include Ichikakusodoshu (first volume 1775, second volume 1788, posthumous volume 1802), as well as Kyofuso (first volume 1770, second volume 1784), a collection of poems by Ichikakusodo disciples. *Some of the terminology that refers to "Adachi Fuminaka" is listed below.
