Chun yú Kūn (English spelling)

Japanese: 淳于髡 - じゅんうこん（英語表記）Chún yú Kūn

He was from the state of Qi during the Warring States period in China. He is said to have been the son-in-law of the King of Qi. He admired Yan Ying's character and was also known for his wide range of knowledge, making him one of the sons of the Ji family (the Ji Gate). He is said to have been an eloquent speaker and negotiated with King Wei of Qi and King Hui of Liang, but his deeds are legendary. The content of his speeches that have been passed down to the present day is more like oral art, using metaphors and rhymes rather than logical persuasion. The Records of the Grand Historian places his story at the beginning of the humorous biographies. [Konami Ichiro]

中国，戦国時代，斉国の人。斉王の女婿だという。彼は晏嬰（あんえい）の人となりを慕い，また広い知識をもって，稷下（しよくか）の諸子の一人に数えられる(稷門)。弁舌家として斉の威王や梁の恵王と交渉をもったとされるが，その事跡は伝説的である。現在に伝わる彼の弁舌の内容も，論理的説得というよりも，比喩を用い韻を踏んだりして，口頭芸能としての色彩が強い。《史記》は滑稽列伝の最初に彼の伝を置く。【小南一郎】
