A cup made from an animal horn. Later, animal heads were made from pottery, bronze, and silver. In ancient Greece, a drinking cup made from timber was called a rhyton. In Persia, from about 1000 BCE to the Sassanid dynasty, golden rhytons were also made. Ivory and bronze rhytons have been excavated from the Yin Ruins in China, and rhytons were used in the future along with the import of Western culture during the Sui and Tang dynasties, and can be found in stone carvings from that time and in the decorations of the Shosoin treasures.
