Japanese: 角館[町] - かくのだて

An old town in Senboku District, eastern Akita Prefecture. Kakunodate, in the center, is along Tamagawa River, a tributary of Omono River, and is served by the Akita Shinkansen (Tazawako Line) and the Akita Inland Main Line, where it branches off. It developed as a castle town for the Ashina and Satake clans, and with samurai residences and old merchant houses remaining, it is known as Akita's Little Kyoto. In addition to rice, livestock, and field farming, the town also produces woodworking and lumber. It is the center of birch crafts made from the bark of cherry trees, a specialty of Akita Prefecture. Upstream of Tamagawa River is Dakigaeri Valley. In September 2005, it merged with Tazawako Town and Nishiki Village in Senboku District to become Senboku City. 156.63 ^km2 . Population: 14,600 (2003).

秋田県東部，仙北郡の旧町。中心の角館は雄物(おもの)川の支流玉川に沿い，秋田新幹線（田沢湖線）が通じ，秋田内陸縦貫鉄道が分岐する。芦名氏，佐竹氏の城下町として発達，武家屋敷，古い商家が残り，秋田の小京都と呼ばれる。稲作，畜産，畑作のほか，木工業，製材業も行う。秋田県特産の桜の皮を用いた樺(かば)細工生産の中心地。玉川の上流に抱返(だきがえり)渓谷がある。2005年９月，仙北郡田沢湖町，西木村と合併し市制，仙北市となる。156.63km²。１万4600人（2003）。
