Kameba Hikiokoshi - Kameba Hikiokoshi

A perennial plant of the Lamiaceae family (APG classification: Lamiaceae) that grows in partial shade in mountainous areas. The stems are square and covered with downward-facing hairs. The leaves are opposite, oval, 5-10 cm long, and have a notched tail-like tip. From August to October, it produces sparse inflorescences that produce bluish-purple flowers. Occasionally, white flowers can also be found. The corolla is tubular and bilabial, 8-10 mm long. Its Japanese name comes from the resemblance of its leaves to a turtle, as it is a member of the Hikiokoshi family. It is found in central and northern Honshu. A variant, Hakusan Kameba Hikiokoshi, has large lobes with coarse sawtooth tips at the tips of its leaves, and is found in the western part of the Chubu region.

シソ科（APG分類：シソ科）の多年草で、山地の半日陰に生える。茎は方形で下向きの毛がつく。葉は対生し、卵円形で長さ5～10センチメートル、先は切れ込んで尾状となる。8～10月ごろ、まばらな花穂をつくり、青紫色の花をつける。まれに白花のものもある。花冠は筒状二唇形で長さ8～10ミリメートル。和名は、ヒキオコシの仲間で、葉の形がカメに似ていることによる。本州中部以北に分布する。変種のハクサンカメバヒキオコシは葉の先に粗い鋸歯(きょし)のある大きな裂片があり、中部地方西部に分布する。
