Angle ruler

A ruler used to measure angles. The simplest tool for measuring any angle is a protractor, but an angle ruler is used when more accurate measurements are required. It consists of a base plate, a straightedge, and a scale. The base plate is integrated with the scale, and the straightedge rotates around the center of the scale. When the base plate is fixed and the straightedge is rotated, the angle between the two can be read from the scale on the scale. The rotation angle can be read to 5 minutes using a vernier. Index tables used in machine tools have a rotating table on which the workpiece is fixed, and the rotation angle can be read to 1 minute. There are also optical angle rulers that can optically read angles to about 2 seconds.

角度を測定するのに用いられる定規。任意の角を測定するもっとも簡単なものは分度器であるが、さらに正確に測定したいときに用いられるのが角度定規である。ベース・プレート、ストレート・エッジと目盛り板よりなっている。ベース・プレートは目盛り板と一体で、ストレート・エッジは目盛り板の中心の周りを回転する。ベース・プレートを固定し、ストレート・エッジを回転させたとき、二つの間の角度を目盛り板の目盛りで読み取ることができる。回転角はバーニヤを用いて5分(ふん)まで読むことができる。工作機械に用いられている割出し台は品物を固定する回転台があり、回転角は1分(ぷん)読みである。このほか光学的に角度を2秒程度まで読むことのできる光学的角度定規もある。
