Born on April 20, 1921. Granddaughter of Inukai Tsuyoshi and eldest daughter of Inukai Takeru. Dropped out of Tsuda English School (now Tsuda University) to study at universities in Europe and the US, and travelled to many countries. Published "Ojosan Horouki" (A Young Lady's Wanderings) in 1958. Continues to write critical essays on a wide range of topics including society, culture and women. Established the Inukai Fund, a scholarship fund for refugees, in 1986. Received the Mainichi Publishing Culture Award in 1989 for "Thinking on the Border Line." Originally from Tokyo.
