An official and court noble from the 7th to early 8th centuries. Son of Abe Hirafu. His name is also written as Sukumaro. In 704, he was given the new surname Abe Ason instead of his previous name of Hikida Ason. He likely became the clan leader of the Abe clan. In 702, he was appointed as the Minister of Construction of Daiden-no-Kaki at the funeral of Empress Jito, and in 708, he was appointed as the Minister of Construction of Okama at the funeral of Emperor Mommu. In 708, he became a Chunagon (Chuan Counselor), and was then appointed as the Chief Minister of Construction of Heijo-kyo, overseeing the construction of Heijo-kyo. In the same year, he was promoted from Junior Fourth Rank to Senior Fourth Rank, and in 718, he became Dainagon (Dainagon) with the rank of Senior Third Rank. He taught arithmetic to Fujiwara no Nakamaro. He frequently served as the Minister of Construction, probably because he excelled in arithmetic.

7世紀から8世紀初めの官人,公卿。阿倍比羅夫の子。名は少麻呂とも記す。慶雲1(704)年,従来の引田朝臣から新たに阿倍朝臣の姓を賜る。阿倍氏の氏上になったのであろう。大宝2(702)年,持統天皇の葬儀では造大殿垣司,慶雲4年,文武天皇の葬儀では造御竃司に任じられた。和銅1(708)年中納言となり,次いで造平城京司長官に任じられ,平城京造営を統轄。同年従四位上から正四位上へ昇り,養老2(718)年大納言となった。死没時は大納言正三位。藤原仲麻呂に算術を教えた。ひんぱんに造営官司を務めたのは,算術に優れていたためであろう。
