A historian of the Umayyad period in Spain. His background is unknown. He compiled the descriptions of Andalusia by his predecessors and wrote Muqtabis, which is the most important source on the history of Andalusia. His own historical narrative al-Matīn, the outline of which is known through later citations, provides detailed information on the politics of the Umayyad period, although most of the original text has been lost.
