He compiled the descriptions of Andalusia by his predecessors and wrote Muqtabis, which is the most important source on the history of Andalusia. His own historical narrative al-Matīn, the outline of which is known through later citations, provides detailed information on the politics of the Umayyad period, although most of the original text has been lost.
