Equivalent

Japanese: てきや
Equivalent
A street vendor who sells at festivals, fairs, and other events. Also called a yashi. It is thought that this name was created after an edict was issued in 1872 to stop the use of the name yashi. It is generally written as 'Yashi', but the name is said to be a play on the word 'Ya-teki' (shooting gallery) because they purchase and sell things that can be hit at the time, or to be derived from an inversion of 'Ya-teki' (palm). 'Yashi' [Iwai Hiroyuki]
