…Lord of Hiroshima Domain during the late Edo period and the Meiji Restoration. Born as the fifth son of Asano Nagatoshi, he was initially adopted by Nagayoshi, a branch of the Asano clan. However, in 1858 (Ansei 5), when Hiroshima Domain lord Yoshiteru died without an heir, he joined the main family and changed his name to Mochinaga the following year. He promoted reforms in the domain government by appointing Tsuji Masao and others as elders, and was also a mediator during the two Choshu expeditions and the restoration of imperial rule. In 1868, he changed his name to Naganori, and retired from service due to illness in 1869.
