...The theory that the Slavs were the bearers of the "Lauzat culture" of the early Iron Age, seen in Central and Eastern Europe from 1300 to 500 BC, was proposed in the 18th century, was revived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is still popular among Slavic archaeologists today, but it has not yet gone beyond the realm of speculation. In the middle of the 5th century BC, the Greek historian Herodotus heard about the Neuroi, who lived in the upper reaches of the Dnieper and Bug rivers and transformed into wolves for a few days once a year. Based on their place of residence (close to the original homeland of the Slavs) and folklore (wolf worship), it is possible to assume that the Neuroi were a tribe of ancient Slavs. ...
