Kichijiro Asano

Japanese: 浅野吉次郎 - あさの きちじろう
Kichijiro Asano
1859-1926 A businessman from the Meiji to Taisho era.
Born on May 14, 1858. His family manufactured barrels and pails for the Owari Nagoya Domain. He studied British tea boxes made from plywood, and in 1909 he completed the Asano-style plywood. By 1924, he was supplying most of the plywood for airplanes in Japan. He passed away on February 26, 1926. He was 68 years old.

安政6年5月14日生まれ。生家は樽(たる)や桶(おけ)の製造で尾張(おわり)名古屋藩の御用をつとめる。ベニヤでつくられたイギリス製茶箱を研究し,明治42年浅野式合板を完成。大正13年ごろには国内の飛行機用合板のほとんどを供給した。大正15年2月26日死去。68歳。
