Mount Asakusa - Mount Asakusa

A volcano on the border between Tadami Town, Minamiaizu County, Fukushima Prefecture and Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. It is 1,585 meters above sea level. Lava and clastic rocks of pyroxene andesite that erupted in the early Quaternary Period are layered on top of Tertiary bedrock. From the summit, the mountain slopes gently to about 1,200 meters northeast, but there are steep slopes on the southeast side and an old explosion crater wall on the northwest side. As it is a region of heavy snowfall, there is an abundance of remaining snow, and it is popular for its wide views. It is part of the Echigo Sanzan Tadami Quasi-National Park. There are climbing routes from Tagokura Station on the JR Tadami Line and other locations.

福島県南会津郡只見町(ただみまち)と新潟県魚沼市(うおぬまし)との境にある火山。標高1585メートル。第三紀層の基盤岩の上に、第四紀の初めころ噴出した輝石安山岩の溶岩と砕屑(さいせつ)岩とが互層をなしてのっている。山頂から北東に向かって1200メートル付近まで緩やかな裾野(すその)を引くが、南東側には急斜面が連なり、北西側には古い爆裂火口壁がある。豪雪地域のため残雪が豊富で、広い眺望とともに人気がある。越後三山只見国定公園(えちごさんざんただみこくていこうえん)の一部。JR只見線田子倉(たごくら)駅などから登山ルートがある。
