Chemical formula: NaF. Commonly known as sodium fluoride. Colorless cubic or tetragonal regular hexahedral or octahedral crystal. Rock salt structure. Melting point: 993°C. Boiling point: 1704°C. Specific gravity: 2.79. Refractive index: 1.3258. Solubility in 100g of water is 4g (0°C) and 5g (100°C), significantly lower than potassium salt KF. Slightly soluble in ethyl alcohol. Aqueous solution is alkaline due to hydrolysis and corrodes glass. NaF + H 2 O ⇄ NaOH + HF Dry sodium fluoride does not corrode glass. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
