…02年イギリスで初めて協会が設立された。その後しばらく人気は衰えたが，26年には国際卓球連盟International Table Tennis Federation(ITTF)が結成され，同年12月ロンドンでイギリス，ドイツ，ハンガリーなど7ヵ国による初のヨーロッパ選手権大会を開催，これが後に第1回世界選手権大会として認められた。　日本には1902年，東京高等師範学校教授の坪井玄道がイギリス留学から帰国のさい，ラケット，ボール，ルールブックなどを持ち帰り，旧制高等学校を中心に紹介したのが始まりとされている。…
