Petaling Jaya (English spelling)

...The number of poor squatters in the metropolitan area is estimated at 200,000, and redistribution of their residential land is the biggest challenge in urban planning. Petaling Jaya, an industrial city adjacent to the southwest, was originally planned to solve the capital's housing problem, but it was unable to accommodate low-income earners and became a British-style new town. This type of town has spread further to the western suburbs, and the new state capital, Shah Alam (population 102,000, 1991), is on track to become an industrial city larger than Petaling Jaya (population 254,000, 1991).
