The fourth king of Bavaria (reigned 1864-1886). He is the protagonist of Mori Ogai's "Utakata no Ki" and Visconti's "Ludwig: Twilight of the Gods." He is known as an enthusiastic supporter of Wagner (the construction of the Bayreuth Festival Theater was supported by the king) and a castle-building fanatic (Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee, etc.). The reason for his death shortly after he was declared incompetent is unclear, with two theories being that it was murder by Prussia or suicide. → Related article Neuschwanstein Castle Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
