Naosumi Kagazume

A shogunate official in the early Edo period. Son of Ome Takuya Tsume Tadazumi. Born in Suruga Province (Shizuoka Prefecture). Serving Tokugawa Iemitsu as a page, he became a mainstream hatamoto (samurai) as a page group leader, a shoin clerk, and then as a chief clerk and a temple and shrine magistrate, and rose to become a daimyo with a stipend of 13,000 koku. In 1681, his heir Naokiyo got into a dispute with Naruse Kichiemon over the borders of his territory, and as Naokiyo's argument was at fault, his territory was confiscated. Naokiyo was also implicated and charged with a crime, and was sent to the Tosa Domain. Earlier, in 1670, he was confined to his home for arrogant behavior. He was also known as a kabuki daimyo who committed lawless acts together with Mizuno Jurozaemon, a hatamoto slave who committed many illegal acts, such as the murder of Hatamoto slave Hatazuin Chobei, by joining the Daisho Jingi-gumi (Shiraha-gumi) of Mizuno Jurozaemon. It is said that he was feared by the citizens of Edo, who would say, "Anyone passing by late at night is either a thief or a thief." Although he was born into a wealthy family, he was unable to adapt to the times and was the founder of a gang of thugs who threw away their status as a feudal lord.

江戸前期の幕臣。大目付加々爪忠澄の子。駿河国(静岡県)生まれ。御小姓として徳川家光に仕え,御小姓組頭,書院番頭と旗本の主流を歩み,大番頭,寺社奉行を歴任して1万3000石の大名に累進。天和1(1681)年,嗣子直清が成瀬吉衛門と領地の境目争いを起こし,直清の所論に落ち度があったことから領地没収となる。直澄もこれに連座して罪を問われ,土佐藩に預けられて終わる。それよりも先の寛文10(1670)年には驕慢の振る舞いにより閉門させられてもいる。また,町奴の幡随院長兵衛の殺害等不法の所行が多かった旗本奴水野十郎左衛門の大小神祇組(白柄組)に加担して,ともに無頼の所行を働いたかぶき大名として知られた。「夜更けて通るは加々爪甲斐か,泥棒か」と,江戸市民に恐れられたと伝えられる。恵まれた家柄に生まれながら,時代に適応できず大名の地位を棒にふった愚連隊の大元祖。<参考文献>『徳川実記』
