One of the major general contractors. The industry leader in Western Japan. Founded in 1892 by Yoshigoro Obayashi as a civil engineering and construction contractor. In 1904, the company changed its name to Obayashi Corporation. In 1918, it was reorganized as a joint-stock company. Primarily involved in construction, it has worked on some of Japan's most famous buildings, including Tokyo Station, Koshien Stadium, and Osaka Dome. It also excels in railway construction and earthquake resistance technology. It is the second largest land owner in the industry after Kajima Construction, and is also strong in real estate, but its profits worsened in the 1990s amid the general contractor recession.
