...After entering Sanko High School, he met Nakatani Takao and Tonomura Shigeru, and developed an interest in literature. He lived a decadent lifestyle and developed tuberculosis, but he aspired to become a writer. In 1924, he entered Tokyo University, and the following year, he founded the magazine "Aozora" with Nakatani and Tonomura. He published masterpieces that would later become Kajii's masterpieces, such as "Lemon" and "In a Town with a Castle" (both 1925), but they did not attract attention from the literary world. From 1926, he went to Yugashima Onsen in Izu to recuperate, and during that time he wrote works that show his deepening awareness of himself and the outside world, such as "Winter Day" (1927) and "Winter Flies" (1928). ...
