Japanese: 化学方程式 - かがくほうていしき

An equation that expresses a chemical reaction using chemical formulas showing reactants and products, as well as coefficients and equal signs. For example, 2H ₂ + O ₂ = 2H ₂ O. Not only does it show the types of substances before and after the reaction, it also satisfies the quantitative relationships of substances according to the law of conservation of mass and the law of gas reactions. If the equation also includes the input and output of heat during the reaction, it is called a thermochemical equation. Nowadays, it is common to use → instead of = and call it a chemical reaction equation, and the direction of the reaction is often specified.
