Around the 15th century, cattle herders gradually invaded the fertile crescent-shaped region stretching from the north to the west shores of Lake Victoria, from the north or west, and became rulers, subjugating the previously agricultural inhabitants. The famous Bachwezi dynasty, a mythical entity, is thought to be one of these rulers, but around 1500, the Nile-speaking Bito royal family drove out the Bachwezi, succeeded their kingdom of Kitara, and established the Bunyoro Kingdom, which controlled almost the entire southern half of present-day Uganda. Around 1650, the Bunyoro Kingdom reached its peak of prosperity, and thereafter the Buganda Kingdom, which bordered it to the south, became powerful in its place.

　ビクトリア湖北岸から西岸にわたる肥沃な半月形の地域に15世紀ごろ牛牧民が北あるいは西より徐々に侵入し，以前から農耕を行っていた住民を従えて支配者になっていった。神話的存在として名高いバチュウェジBachwezi王朝はこのような支配者の一つと考えられているが，1500年ころにナイル語系のビト王族がバチュウェジを追い出し，その王国キタラをうけついでブニョロ王国をつくり，現在のウガンダの南半分の地域をほぼ従えた。1650年ころブニョロ王国の繁栄は頂点に達し，以後これに代わって南に接するブガンダ王国が強大となった。…
