When transferring (selling) stocks, etc. in Japan, if you receive payment for the transfer (=sales price) from a securities company or a corporation, etc., you must report your name and address to the payer, such as the securities company, by the time you receive the payment. This is called notification. In principle, the payment of tax on capital gains from stocks, etc. is a system in which individuals calculate the income they have earned from trading stocks, etc., and file a tax return. When making the notification, the payer must present certain documents, such as a copy of their resident registration card, to the payer, who must verify their identity. However, if the payer has a book prepared based on an application form to which a copy of the identification document is attached, they do not need to present the identification document for each transaction. Since the payment of tax on capital gains from stocks, etc. is a voluntary reporting system, certain tax documents are required as a tax practice to ensure that no reporting is missed. Along with the notification from the investor, the payer, such as the securities company, prepares a payment statement and submits it to the tax office.

国内において株式等の譲渡(売却)をした場合に、証券会社や法人等から譲渡の対価の支払(=売却代金)を受ける場合には、その支払いを受ける時までに、氏名と住所を証券会社などの支払者に報告しなくてはならない。このことを告知という。株式等のキャピタルゲインに対する納税は、原則として、個人が自分で株式等の取引によって得た所得を計算し、確定申告を行う仕組みになっている。告知の際には、住民票の写しなど一定の書類を支払者に提示して、支払者はその本人確認をおこなう。ただし支払者は、本人確認書類の写しを添付した申請書に基づいて作成された帳簿を備えているときは、取引の都度、本人確認書類を提示する必要はない。株式等のキャピタルゲインに対する納税は、自主申告制度となっているため、課税の実務として、一定の税務資料を提出させることによって、申告漏れがないようにチェックされている。投資家からの告知と共に、証券会社などの支払者からは、支払調書が作成され、税務署に提出される。
