Kaolack - Kaoraku (English spelling)

A river port city on the Salm River, which flows west through central Senegal in West Africa. It is located about 50 km from the mouth of the river and can accommodate ships of up to 6,000 tonnes. It has a population of 243,209 (2001). It is known as the export port for groundnuts, the country's number one commercial crop produced in the Salm River basin. It has a groundnut oil mill and a leather processing factory. It is a key railway point between the capital Dakar and Bamako in Mali, and also has an airport.

西アフリカ、セネガル中央部を西流するサルム川沿岸の河港都市。河口から約50キロメートルにあり、6000トンの船が遡航(そこう)できる。人口24万3209（2001）。サルム川流域で生産するこの国第一の商品作物であるラッカセイの輸出港として知られる。ラッカセイ搾油工場、皮革加工工場などがある。首都ダカールとマリのバマコ間の鉄道要所で、空港もある。
