Japanese: アメリカ村 - あめりかむら

The nickname for the area around Mitsu Park, near Nishi-Shinsaibashi in Chuo Ward, Osaka City, where there are many stores that promote youth culture. It is also known as the "Harajuku of the West" and is abbreviated as "Amemura." After businesswoman and space producer Mariko Higiri opened her coffee shop "Loop" in 1969, the number of stores selling American fashion and other items increased, and "Amerikamura" naturally emerged. In the 1990s, it flourished, attracting 70,000 people a day, but gradually fell into disrepair due to graffiti and noise. Since 2006, the area has been working to restore public safety, with surveillance cameras being installed.

若者文化を発信する店舗が数多くある大阪市中央区西心斎橋付近、御津公園を中心としたエリアの通称。「西の原宿」などと呼ばれ略称は「アメ村」。1969年に実業家・空間プロデューサーの日限萬里子が喫茶店「ループ」を出店以降、米国のファッションなどを扱う店が増えていき「アメリカ村」が自然発生した。90年代には日に7万人が集まるほどの活況を呈したが、次第に落書きや騒音などにより荒廃していった。2006年より監視カメラが稼働されるなど、本格的に治安の回復に取り組んでいる。
