...A haiku poet of the early Edo period. His family name was Ochi, and his common name was Juzo. His other names were Fuyamashi and Hibana-o. He was from Hokuetsu. He went to Nagoya and ran a dyeing shop with the help of Nomizu (a kimono merchant), a member of the Fuyu no Hi renshu. He may have become a student of Basho in 1684 (Jokyo 1). He participated in the renku renku published in Spring Days in 1686, and contributed nine hokku verses. In November 1687, he accompanied Basho to visit Tokoku, who had been convicted by Mikawa Yasumi and was living in seclusion. In August 1688, he accompanied Basho on his journey to compose Sarashina Nikko.
