Chemical polishing

Japanese: 化学研磨 - かがくけんま

A surface treatment method in which copper, nickel, aluminum, etc. are immersed for a short period of time in a mixed solution of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc. to smooth and polish the surface. A representative example is the plating base treatment for copper and brass, known as Kirinsu finishing. It has the advantages of being simple to operate and capable of processing large quantities in a short period of time, but it is difficult to select the appropriate polishing solution and it produces toxic gases during the process.

硫酸，硝酸，塩酸などの混合溶液に，銅，ニッケル，アルミニウムなどを短時間浸漬して，表面の平滑化やつや出しをする表面処理法。キリンス仕上げと呼ばれた銅・黄銅のめっき下地処理が代表例。操作が簡単，短時間で大量処理ができるという利点があるが，研磨液の適正な選択がむずかしく，作業中有毒ガスが発生するのが難点。
