…Formal name of armor. In the Todaiji Temple Offerings Book from 756 (Tenpyo Shoho 8), there is a distinction between short armor and hanging armor. There are two types of armor excavated from burial mounds, so one is called hanging armor and the other is called short armor. The back of the short armor is wide and high, covering the shoulders, while the front is narrow and low, not reaching the shoulders, and the lower end reaches the upper part of the waist. All short armors are divided vertically in the center of the front armor, overlapping slightly. Most of them have a continuous structure in which the left and right front armors are assembled together, and a structure in which the right front armor is separated and assembled, opening to the right side, but there are also rare cases in which the left front armor is also separated and opening to both sides. …

…〈よろい〉の形式名。756年(天平勝宝8)の《東大寺献物帳》に短甲と挂甲(けいこう)とを区別した記載がある。古墳出土の〈よろい〉にも2種があるので,一方を挂甲とし,他方を短甲と呼ぶことになった。その短甲は,後胴は広く高く肩を覆うが,前胴は狭く低くて肩に達せず,下端は腰の上部に届く程度の,短い胴甲である。すべて前胴の中央部が縦に分かれて,少し重なる。左右の前胴を後胴に連続して組み立てた胴一連の構造と,右前胴を分離して組み立てた右脇開きの構造とが多いが,まれに左前胴も分離した両脇開きの構造のものもある。…
