Net cage aquaculture (net cage aquaculture)

Net cage aquaculture (net cage aquaculture)
This is a method of farming in which the water surface is partitioned with nets. Currently, most marine fish such as yellowtail and sea bream are farmed using this method, and it is also called small-area farming. It is not only done in the sea, but also in lakes and marshes, such as carp farming in Lake Suwa and Lake Kasumigaura, and net cages are also used to raise young fish in fish ponds. Synthetic fiber nets are usually used for net cages. Wire mesh may be used for fish with strong teeth such as pufferfish and stone bream. The traditional method was to attach the net to a bamboo or log frame and float it on the water surface directly or with floats such as drums or barrels, but recently a method using polystyrene foam floats on a steel frame with a scaffold for feeding and hauling has become popular.
