〘noun〙① A metal plate that is struck together at Buddhist ceremonies in temples. ※Gotokyoki - Tenbun 1 (1532), January 12th "Today is the anniversary of my father's death, and two monks have come. 〘名〙① 寺院で、法会のときなどに互いにあわせて打ち鳴らす金属の盤。※言継卿記‐天文元年(1532)正月一二日「今日亡父忌日之間、僧両人来、本誓寺統全、天王寺正舜等也、茶持参、予双盤候了」※歌舞伎・韓人漢文手管始(唐人殺し)(1789)四「『南無阿彌陀仏』と合掌する。快念そうばんを打懸る」② 歌舞伎で下座音楽に用いる楽器の名。また、それに大太鼓を伴った鳴物の名。大型の鉦鼓(しょうこ)に似たものを枠にかけ、撞木(しゅもく)で打つ。天台宗の寺院で奏でる音楽にヒントを得て作られたもので、寺院やその付近の描写に用いる。※雑俳・川柳評万句合‐宝暦一三(1763)礼三「そうばんの身ぶりでばいを廻しかけ」③ 柱の下、礎石との間にある板あるいは石。禅宗の建築に用いる。礎盤。※紙上蜃気(1758)「盤(ソウバン)
