…an old industrial area in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. It is now part of the city of Zaanstad. In the 17th century, hundreds of windmills lined the area, and they were used as a source of power for the flourishing of various industries, including shipbuilding, lumbering, papermaking, and oil extraction.
