Buddha's sound - Button

Buddha's sound - Button

An ancient Indian monk and the greatest commentator of Southern Buddhism. Dates of birth and death unknown. He was active in the first half of the 5th century. His Pali name was Buddhaghosa, and his Sanskrit name was Buddhaghoa. He was born near Bodh Gaya in Northern India (although the current theory that he was originally from Southern India is more popular). After traveling around Southern India, during the reign of King Mahānāma (reigned 410-432), he translated and reconstructed the ancient Sinhalese and other ancient commentaries that had been kept secret at the Mahavihara, the head temple of the Southern Theravada Mahāvatā sect in Anuradhapura, the capital of Ceylon (Sri Lanka), into Pāli, and established the orthodox theory of the Mahāvatā sect. His main work, "Shojodōron," is a compilation of the Mahāvatā sect's doctrines. In addition, he wrote commentaries (attacats) in Pali on many parts of the Pali Tripitaka based on the abovementioned ancient sources. That is, at least the commentaries on the Vinaya, the Long Section, the Middle Section, the Samadhi Section, and the Increased Section are all considered to be his work. In addition, there are many more commentaries that are traditionally believed to be his work.
