Public part-time educational institutions for working young people in the UK. Established by the Education Act of 1944 (Butler Act). The Act required all local education authorities to establish and operate free educational centres offering physical education, practical training and vocational training for those aged between the age of completion of compulsory education and 18 who are not receiving full-time education (secondary education or higher). The aim is to develop the various aptitudes and abilities of working young people and to nurture healthy citizens, and the minimum number of days of attendance per year is set at 44 weeks (330 hours), either one day a week or two half-days each. イギリスにおける勤労青年のための公立の定時制教育機関。1944年教育法(バトラー法)によって規定された。同法はすべての地方教育当局に,義務教育修了年齢から18歳以下の全日制教育(中等教育以上の教育)を受けていない者のために,体育,実務,職業訓練などを行う無償の教育センターの設置・運営を義務づけた。そのねらいは,働く青年のさまざまな適性や能力を発達させ,健全な市民を育成することにあるとされ,年間の最低出席日数は,週1日または半日ずつ2日で44週(330時間)と規定されている。
