Immortality - Furofushi

It refers to eternal youth and eternal life, which are considered to be the characteristics of those who live in a world different from humans and transcend the human world. The desire for this is universal among human beings, and although there are differences depending on religion and belief, it represents another world, such as the land of the gods, the Pure Land, or heaven. In China, the Records of the Grand Historian contains a story about Qin Shi Huang (259-210 BC) seeking an elixir of immortality, and it seems that the idea of ​​immortality has existed since the Warring States period. Taoist health care theories describe ways to achieve immortality and longevity, and in the Six Dynasties period, Ge Hong preached specific methods for achieving immortality, such as taking medicine, abstaining from food, and Doin, and immortality became an important ideological element in Taoism. Some of these methods are still used in modern health practices, and there are many literary works that have immortality as their theme.

人間とは別な世界に住む、人間界を超越した者の特性として考えられる、若さの永続と生命の永遠をいう。これを願うことは人類に普遍的であり、神(かみ)の国(くに)、浄土(じょうど)世界、天国(てんごく)など、宗教や信仰によって相違はあるが、別な世界を表している。中国では、『史記』に秦(しん)の始皇帝(しこうてい)（前259―前210）が不死の薬を求めた話があり、戦国時代から不死の観念があったと思われる。道家(どうか)の養生(ようせい)の説には不老長寿を実現するための方法が述べられ、六朝(りくちょう)時代になると、葛洪(かっこう)によって、服薬(ふくやく)、辟穀(へきこく)、導引(どういん)など不老不死を得るための具体的方法が説かれ、不老不死は道教の重要な思想的要素となった。その方法が現代において健康法に活用されているものもある。また不老不死を主題にした文学作品も数多くある。
