Japanese: tapkar
tapkar

…(1) Niwen‐apkas (rough walking): When something unusual happens in a village, the village elders take the lead, and the men draw their swords and shout in a loud voice, “Hoo-hum! Hoo-hum!”, while the women follow behind, brandishing their sticks and shouting in a thin, shrill voice, “Hoi! Hoi!” They form a single file and step firmly on the ground, step by step, to scare away evil spirits. (2) Tapkar (dance): At a drinking party, when the excitement is at its peak, the elders of the troupe stand together and perform a dance in which they stretch their arms out to the left and right, turn their palms up, bend their elbows slightly, and quietly move them up and down while stepping firmly on their feet and taking several steps diagonally to the side, then repeat the same movement and return to their original position. At this time, they utter a singing voice with a unique tone called "sakehau" (drinking voice) in sync with their movements.
