Yoshio Fujiwara

Japanese: 藤原刷雄 - ふじわらのよしお

Years of birth: unknown. An aristocrat from the Nara period. Son of Fujiwara no Nakamaro and the daughter of Otomo no Inukai. Sixth son of Nakamaro. In 752 (Tenpyo Shoho 4), he joined the group of Japanese envoy to Tang China Fujiwara no Kiyokawa and went to China as a student. During his father Fujiwara no Nakamaro's Rebellion (764), he was exiled to Oki (Shimane Prefecture) and was spared the death penalty because he had practiced Zen from a young age. He was pardoned in 772 (Hōki 3), and thereafter held the positions of Tajima no Kami, Kazusa no Kami, Daigaku no Kami, and Udai Toneri no Kami. In 791 (Enryaku 10), he was appointed head of the Onmyoryo (an office under the Ministry of Central Affairs, responsible for creating calendars, etc.). A five-character poem commemorating the Tang scholar monk Ganjin is included in "Tō Yamato Jōtō Seiden." <References> Kishi Toshio, "Fujiwara no Nakamaro"

生年：生没年不詳
奈良時代の貴族。藤原仲麻呂と大伴犬養の娘の子。仲麻呂の第6子。天平勝宝4(752)年,遣唐大使藤原清河の一行に加わり留学生として入唐。父藤原仲麻呂の乱(764)の際,若いときから禅行を積んでいたとしてひとり死罪を免れ,隠岐(島根県)に配流。宝亀3(772)年許され,以後但馬守,上総守,大学頭,右大舎人頭などを歴任した。延暦10(791)年には陰陽寮(中務省に属する役所。暦作りなどを担当)の長官に任じられた。『唐大和上東征伝』に唐の学僧鑑真を追悼する五言詩が収められている。<参考文献>岸俊男『藤原仲麻呂』
