The capital of the state of Bhatsa, one of the sixteen great states that flourished in northern India around the 8th to 6th centuries BCE. Its Chinese name is Kanshouya. It was a hub of the transportation route that connected the middle reaches of the Ganges River with western and central India, and was one of the four great states along with Magadha. It is located near the village of Kosam, about 60 km west of Allahabad in southeastern Uttar Pradesh, and faces the Yamuna River. Remains of the former capital city remain, the oldest layer of which dates back to the 7th century BCE. Buddha also visited and stayed here. 前8~前6世紀ころに北インドに栄えた十六大国の一つバッツァ国の都。漢名は憍賞弥。ガンガー(ガンジス)川中流域と西部および中央インドを結ぶ当時の交通路の結節点にあたり,同国はマガダ国などとともに四強国の一つであった。ウッタル・プラデーシュ州南東部のアラーハーバード西方約60kmのコサム村付近にあてられ,ヤムナー川に面する。かつての都城の跡が残り,その最古層は前7世紀にさかのぼる。ブッダもここを訪れ,滞在したこともある。
