Prince Atsumi

Japanese: 敦実親王 - あつみしんのう

893－967 The eighth son of Emperor Uda in the mid-Heian period.
Born in the 5th year of Kanpyo. His mother was Fujiwara no Inshi. He was the ancestor of the Uda Genji clan. He became a prince in the 7th year of Kanpyo. As he grew older, he served as Nakatsukasakyo and Shikibukyo. He was a first-rank priest. In the 4th year of Tenryaku, he became a monk and lived at Ninna-ji Temple. He excelled in waka poetry, music and kemari, and was said to be the ancestor of music in the Minamoto clan. He passed away on March 2nd in the 4th year of Kōhō. He was 75 years old. He was commonly known as Rokujō Shikibukyonomiya and Ninna-jinomiya. His posthumous Buddhist name was Kakushin.

寛平(かんぴょう)5年生まれ。母は藤原胤子(いんし)。宇多源氏の祖。寛平7年親王となる。長じて中務卿,式部卿を歴任した。一品(いっぽん)。天暦(てんりゃく)4年出家して仁和(にんな)寺にすむ。和歌,管弦,蹴鞠(けまり)などをよくし,源家音曲の祖といわれた。康保(こうほう)4年3月2日死去。75歳。通称は六条式部卿宮,仁和寺宮。法名は覚真。
